Are you over the pretty platter that has caroled in the holidays with your family for the past decade? Here are a few fresh ideas to add warmth and character to any room in your house this holiday season.
Pull glassware out of the cabinets and onto a mantel for a last-minute arrangement. Let curled ribbon drape out of a champagne flute. Place one ornament in a martini glass. Stack mini ornaments in a beer glass. Or create a “flower” in a clay pot with a wine glass and ornaments. Put a votive holder upside down inside the pot as a base for the glass. Secure the glass to the top of the holder with double-sided tape. Crumple tissue paper around the base of the glass, and fill with mini ornaments.
For a fragrant chair-back decoration, bundle bay leaf, thyme, rosemary and marjoram with twine. Bouquets can be made several days in advance, then refrigerated. Once dry, use them for cooking!
These are a great go-to’s for holiday parties. Pick up Mason jars and Mineral Oil at your local grocery store. Then at your local craft and hobbies store pick up small holiday ornaments and a large container of white glitter (snow colored). Use a hot glue gun to fix ornaments to the bottom of the Mason jar, pour ample amount of glitter into the jar where you can still see the ornaments. Fill jar will Mineral Oil and seal tight with the accompanying lid.
Tack an evergreen branch to the wall to hang cards from.
